Expanded Horizon IslandsTM are a network of sea-bound platforms for urbanity that circulate the earth on global ocean currents. The project operates on a planetary scale, freed from the invented notion of the nation state and the imaginary lines that bound them.
Three island networks are transported within naturally occurring inter-continental gyres. Constantly in motion the Expanded Horizon IslandsTM are new engines of global trade and human migration.
The collective creates an territorial sense of place through carefully calibrated relationships that ensure no vessel is ever out-of- sight. The horizon, as seen from one vessel to another, is the limit.
Vessels are endlessly re-configurable and are continually intra-acting. As the collective moves from port to port they trade stock, accumulate cultural artefacts, build and develop. The Expanded Horizon IslandsTM are able to house millions of humans and hectare stacked upon hectare of cultivated plant-life.
